Tonight We Ride exists to serve individuals and communities in need through direct action, meaningful connection, and compassionate outreach—providing food, resources, and support to the homeless, veterans, and those facing crisis.
We are committed to showing up where help is needed most, building relationships, and changing the world, one person at a time.
The Heart of Tonight We Ride
At its core, Tonight We Ride exists to restore dignity, hope, and human connection to people who are often invisible — starting right here in Dallas.
Not just through charity, but through relationship, consistency, and presence.
Because when people feel seen, heard, and valued, real change begins.
Through this philosophy, Tonight We Ride supports our community through several key outreach efforts, including homeless outreach, emergency response, and our long-standing annual toy drive — each built on the belief that small acts of compassion can create lasting impact.
Changing the world, one person at a time.
How Tonight We Ride Began
The story of Tonight We Ride begins the way many great stories do—with hockey, friendship, and a little bit of chaos.
Back in 1996, a buddy of mine split up with his girlfriend. As part of the breakup fallout, there happened to be a Dallas Stars ticket package involved. When they went their separate ways, I bought her seat and started joining him for the rest of the season. The following year we went all in and bought full season tickets.
At the time, “Tonight We Ride” was already a phrase we used among friends. It wasn’t anything official—it simply meant the next adventure starts now.
One night at a Stars game, during a moment when the team could have used a little energy, I stood up and yelled: “Tonight We Ride!”
The arena’s response? Total silence.
But over the next few games, I kept trying. Eventually I changed it up and yelled “Tonight!” while turning toward the crowd behind me. One person answered back:
“We Ride!”
That was the spark.
Before long, the chant started spreading through the section. To help people catch on, I even made a couple of poster board signs that read “2 NITE” and “WE RIDE.” I would hold up the first sign, shout “2 NITE!” and then drop it to reveal the second sign while yelling “WE RIDE!”
Game after game, the chant grew.
By the 1999 season, the signs were no longer needed. I would stand up, yell “2 NITE!”, and entire sections of the arena would answer back “WE RIDE!”—especially during the unforgettable Stanley Cup playoff run that year. That same year we held the very first Tonight We Ride Toy Drive, an event that continues to this day.
What started as a chant in a hockey arena slowly became something more—a community of people who believe in showing up, helping others, and stepping into whatever adventure the night might bring.
And today, that spirit lives on through the work of the Tonight We Ride Organization.
